Hi there! I’m Jay, a UX designer currently based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I have over 20 years experience in both print and digital design. I’m a problem solver, user-centered evangelist, and passionate about creating products that help change industries and improve people’s lives.

I continue with the desire to grow and improve my craft. I am a certified UX designer with a specialization in Interaction Design, and also a certified Scrum Product Owner. This knowledge helps me bridge design and product discliplines to solve complex problems and speak to both technical and non-technical audiences.

TOOLS

In My Toolbox

Low Fidelity

I start by either sketching my ideas on paper or having a whiteboard session with the team to get early buy-in. Sometimes I would create flow diagrams to confirm my early assumptions and to make sure that we are all on the same page. It’s all about fleshing out ideas quickly, which is great for horizontal brainstorming to explore a wide range of concepts.

Prototyping

Depending on the stage and fidelity required, I would sometimes start off with paper prototypes for early validation with users. Most design tools would include simple prototyping features which is great for rapid prototyping. For more advanced interactions or high visual/high functionality comps, I would use either Axure RP or Flinto.

High Fidelity

Once I’ve validated my assumptions with the client and gone through previous testing, I’m ready to jump in and build a more visually rich experience using Sketch, Figma or Adobe XD. This stage focuses more on testing visual design details rather than core interaction models.

Collaboration Tools

I continuously involve all stakeholders during the design process because it is vital to the success of the end product, whether it be keeping everybody updated of the project’s status through Jira, using Google Docs’ collaboration features, or being in constant communication through Slack.
